Make Crank Your Search Engine

Add Crank Search to your browser's address bar in 30 seconds. No extension required.

STEP 1 · SEARCH URL TEMPLATE (%s) OpenSearch 1.1

Copy the Address Bar Search URL

Most desktop browsers accept a custom search URL where %s is replaced with your search query:
https://www.cranksearch.com/search?q=%s
Optional Suggestions URL (JSON): https://www.cranksearch.com/api/suggest?q=%s
STEP 2 · BROWSER INSTRUCTIONS
Crank Browser

Open Settings → Search and choose Crank Search from the provider selector, or paste https://www.cranksearch.com/search?q=%s under Custom Search Engine.

Chrome, Brave & Edge (Desktop)

Go to Settings → Search engine → Manage search engines and site search. Under Site search, click Add (or activate Crank if auto-discovered), paste https://www.cranksearch.com/search?q=%s as the URL, then click ⋮ → Make default.

Firefox (Desktop)

Right-click the address bar while on Crank Search and select Add “Crank Search”, then set it as your default in Settings → Search.

Safari (macOS & iOS)

Safari does not provide a native custom %s URL field. Set https://www.cranksearch.com as your Homepage or New Tab page in Safari Settings → General.

VERTICAL BANGS · FORCE AN ENGINE MODE

Override Intent Directly from the Address Bar

Crank auto-detects whether your query is a recipe, product comparison, or general web search. You can also force a vertical with a bang anywhere in the query:
!recipe cast iron pan pizza !recipe → Forces Recipe ranker (recipes.v0.1)
!product !product cordless drill teardown → Forces Product Research ranker (products.v1)
!general athens sights for tourists !general → Forces General Web ranker (general.v0)
